2Short academic biography

Academician Tomislav M. Pavlović was born on 14.09.1949 in Nis, where he finished both elementary and high school. He completed studies of physics in 1973 at the University of Belgrade, where he earned his master's degree in 1977. He received his PhD in 1986 at the Department of Engineering Physics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, in Belgrade. At the Department of Physics, Faculty of Sciences and Mathematics in Nis he has taught following courses: Mechanics, Molecular Physics and Thermodynamics, Physics of Surfaces and Thin Films and Basics of Energy. At the Doctoral study program in Physics he teaches the Techniques of Solar Energy and Renewable Energy Physics. His research interests are research in the field of Physics of Surfaces and Thin Films, Physics and Technology of Solar Energy, Renewable Energy Physics and Physics of Materials.

He has published seven books and a large number of papers in the field of solar energy, physics of surfaces and thin films and solid state physics in the international and national journals, proceedings of the international and national conferences and monographs.

According to the Science Citation Index database, the works of academician T. Pavlović (without hetero- and auto citation) have been cited more than 100 times in the papers published in SCI journals.

Under the supervision of academician T. Pavlović two doctoral dissertations and two master's theses were defended, one specialist thesis and several graduate theses. In addition, academician T. Pavlović was a member of several advisory committees for the assessment and defense of doctoral dissertations and master's theses. Now he works with two students at doctoral studies level at the Faculty of Sciences and Mathematics, University of Nis in the preparation of materials for the application for doctoral dissertations in the field of solar energy.

He was a project manager of two international projects and seven projects funded by the Ministry of Science of Serbia and an associate at four international and several national projects. For management of WUS CDP+ 2007 program he was awarded the best content project prize. Now, he is a project manager of the scientific research project TR33009 funded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia.

He was vice-Rector of the University of Nis (2011-2012), Dean of the Faculty of Science and Mathematics in Nis (2000-2004), Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy in Nis (1994-1995), member of the National Education Council of Serbia (2005-2009), Head of the Department of Energy Centre SASA and University of Nis and member of the Steering Committee for energy efficiency of the Ministry of Science of Serbia.

For a foreign member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of the Republic of Srpska he was elected on 21.12.2012.

For a foreign member of the Academy of Higher Education of Ukraine he was elected on 19.12.2015.

For the expert of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in the field of physics of surfaces and solar energy he was elected in 1994.

In cooperation with the Factory for aluminum processing "Nissal" in Nis has was working on the development of a thermal collector with spectrally selective absorber, which is now commercially produced. In cooperation with the Factory for professional electronics, Electronic industry in Nis, he was working on the development of solar systems for the supply of electricity to customers. For this system, Factory for professional electronics received a gold medal in 1999 at the fair in Novi Sad.

He spent a year on internship at the Department of Physics, University of Houston, 3 months in Princeton, 30 days at the Department of Physics, University of Patras in Greece and one week in Koblenz, Germany.

He has delivered several introductory lectures at the national and international scientific meetings. In addition to this, he has delivered a number of popular lectures in the field of solar energy, physics of surfaces and thin films, renewable energy, solid state physics and materials physics at faculties, high schools and other places. He was a board member of several scientific meetings and committees related to solar energy and environmental protection. He is a member of the scientific board of the journal Energy Technologies published by the Society for Solar Energy "Solar Serbia" from Zrenjanin. He was a reviewer of several scientific papers in international and national journals and monographs and a reviewer of the projects of the Ministry of Science of the Republic of Serbia and the projects for solar power plants installation financed by the European Development Bank.

As a Dean he was very engaged in the reconstruction and construction of the building of the Faculty of Science and Mathematics in Nis, the formation and acquisition of the laboratory equipment in order to create better conditions for scientific work, education and formation of the scientific staff at the university. In particular, he was involved in establishing Laboratory for solar energy at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, University of Nis, which has by its equipment and scientific research results become a reference laboratory of solar energy in Serbia. At the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science and Mathematics in Nis has actively pursued the establishment and development of doctoral studies in the field of Renewable energy physics.

The most important papers of academician Tomislav Pavlović include the papers on investigating of optical and microstructural characteristics of anodic oxidized aluminum and spectral selective coatings obtained by electrochemical coloring of the anodic oxidized aluminum, which are used in photo-thermal conversion of solar radiation. In addition, significant papers are those that relate to solar cells of amorphous silicon in the anodic oxidized aluminum and papers relating to the energy efficiency of the hybrid collector with solar radiation concentrators. Significant papers also include work relating to the formation and growth of the crystal from the melt in the furnace for the formation of crystals.

As a foreign member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of the Republic of Srpska T. Pavlović took part in the realization of two UNESCO projects: Renewable energy sources as a model of sustainable development of the countries of West Balkans, 2010-2011 and the Influence of Energy Efficiency of Solar Energy on Economic and Sustanable Development for the Western Balkans region, 2012-2013. Now in the Academy of Sciences and Arts of the Republic of Srpska he manages the implementation of the research project Investigation of the energy efficiency of photovoltaic solar power plant power of  2kW in the Republic of Srpska, 2011-2015, financed by the Ministry of Science of the Republic of Srpska.

As a foreign member of the Academy of Sciences of Higher Education of Ukraine, academician T. Pavlović is responsible for the establishment and development of scientific cooperation between university institutions in Serbia and Ukraine.

From 2000 until today, academician T. Pavlović has continually participated with lectures by invitation at scientific conferences organized by the Academy of Sciences and Arts of the Republic of Srpska.
