Dr Olivera M. Stamenković
Research associate
Department of Biology with Ecology
Dr. Olivera M. Stamenković was born in Sokobanja on March 11th, 1989. She earned bachelor's degree in Biology (general) and master's degree in Ecology and nature protection, and finally a PhD in Biology on March 11th, 2022, by defending her doctoral dissertation entitled "Effects of multiple stressors on multitrophic biodiversity of pond ecosystems" at Faculty of Sciences and Mathematics, University of Niš.
From 2015 to 2019 she was a scholarship holder of the Serbian Ministry of Education, Science and Technological development. In January 2020, she started the position at Faculty of Sciences and Mathematics, University of Niš as a Research Assistant, and then in March 2023, as a Research Associate.
In her research she has been mainly focused on the effects of different human activities on biodiversity in small, standing water bodies.
During her PhD studies, she worked on a project "Establishing conservation management of salt marshes in Serbia based on macroinvertebrate community" supported by the Rufford Foundation, UK (2015-2017; https://www.rufford.org/projects/olivera-stamenkovi%C4%87/establishing-conservation-management-of-salt-marshes-in-serbia-based-on-monitoring-of-macroinvertebrate-community/) and spent two months at INREA in Lyon, France (Jan-March, 2019) as a part of the COST action SMIRES (Science and Management of Intermittent Rivers and Ephemeral Streams), which brought her a huge experience in sampling, identification and the ecology of macroinvertebrate communities.
During 2023 and 2024, she participated in three projects within the AQUACOSM-plus network in Denmark, Hungary and Portugal, whose main focus was the impact of global changes, such as eutrophication, salinization and climate change on different communities in ponds and shallow lakes.
