Academician Cvetković Vladica

Vladica Cvetković was born on 19th June 1964 in Aranđelovac. He graduated from the Faculty of Mining and Geology at the University of Belgrade (FMG-UB) and obtained his master's degree in 1988 and 1993, respectively; in 1997, he obtained his Ph.D. in the field of volcanology. From 1989 to now, he has been employed at the FMG-UB, holding all faculty positions, from Assistant Trainee to Full Professor (2008). In 2004-2006, he stayed at the University of Salzburg after being awarded a senior postdoctoral position (“Lise Meitner” Fellowship of the Austrian Science Foundation). From 2006 to 2009, he served as Vice Dean for scientific research and marketing; from 2009 to 2012, he was Dean of the FMG-UB.
His scientific and professional activity includes the petrology of igneous rocks, volcanology, geochemistry, and mineralogy, as well as their connection with regional and structural geology, tectonics, and the processes of ore deposit formation. He has 67 Scopus- and ORCID-listed (0000-0002-5584-5188) peer-reviewed publications cited in Google Scholar 2500 times (h-25).
Under his leadership, two laboratories were formed at the FMG-UB: the Laboratory for SEM-EDS (Scanning Electron Microscopy – Energo-Dispersive Spectrometry) and the Laboratory for the Study of Fluid Inclusions (Fluid Inclusions). He is a member of the Editorial or Scientific Boards of the Swiss Journal of Geosciences, Geologica Carpathica, Mineralogia, Geološki anali Balkanskog poluostrva, Journal of Mining and Metallurgy, Geologica Balcanica and the Slovak Geological Magazine (2006‒2008). He has been a mentor and commenter on 15 doctoral theses so far and a supervisor at several universities around the world (in Budapest, Salzburg, Sydney, Amsterdam, Utrecht, and others).
He is a member of the Serbian Geological Society and the Serbian Archaeological Society. He participated in evaluations from the European Science Council (ERC) and “Marie Sklodowska-Curie” evaluation programs. He was the president of the Expert Body for the Reform of Higher Education in Serbia (2013‒2017) and a member of the National Council for Higher Education of Serbia (2015‒2017). Through his work in the National Council, he pointed out the bad things in education, providing an intellectual review of civic and other problems.
Vladica Cvetković is the winner of the “Milan Milićević – geological engineer” award for the best work of a young geologist (in 1997, for his doctoral dissertation). The Editorial Board of Lithos awarded him a certificate for the first author of one of the 50 most cited works from 2003 to 2007. In 2013, he received the Charter of the City of Arandjelovac for scientific work. He was elected a Corresponding Member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in 2012 and a regular member in 2021.
